War brought us here: Protecting Children Displaced within their Own Countries by Conflict, Andrew Mawson, Rebecca Dodd and John Hilary, Save the Children, 2000. (posted: 3 October 2002)
This report gives a global overview of the plight of internally displaced children, then focuses on five countries, providing specific recommendations for improving the protection of affected children. Seven gaps in the protection of internally displaced children are identified and discussed.
 
The Prevention of Under-Age Military Recruitment: A Review of Local and Community-Based Concerns and Initiatives, Margaret McCallin, Consultant to the International Save the Children Alliance, January 2002. (posted: 3 October 2002)
This report is significant in that it addresses prevention and reflects the views of children and communities gleaned from case studies in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia and Southern Sudan.
 
Mission to Sri Lanka with a view to Develop Best Practices in Response to Internal Displacement , UNICEF New York (posted: 23 September 2002)
In 1999, UNICEF Office of Emergency Programmes published a Working Paper on "Best Practices in Internal Displacement" based on a mission to Sri Lanka by James Kunder and Bo Viktor Nylund. Many practice examples were gleaned from dozens of interviews and are useful in both practical and inspirational terms. Of particular interest are practices developed by internally displaced persons themselves. this document is short and includes in-country contact information and a brief bibliography, making it a valuable field resources.

This report examines HIV/AIDS from a rights perspective, identifying the effects of HIV/AIDS on not only physical health, but education, psychosocial well-being, protection from physical and sexual abuse and other abuses, the protection of inheritance rights, protection for abandoned, street and working children affected by HIV/AIDS, etc. The report describes a rights-based approach and provides information on prevention, monitoring and evaluation.
 
HIV and Conflict: A Double Emergency ("Without war, we could fight AIDS"), Save the Children, 2002. (posted: 3 October 2002)
This document highlights the relationship between the spread of HIV and war, noting (among other problems) that women and children are often forced to turn to sexual bartering in order to survive and that the rape, sexual violence, sexual exploitation (sometimes by aid workers) and trafficking of human beings that occurs during and after armed conflict has contributed to a rise in cases in both females and in boys.

This report, based on documentary evidence from the UN, intergovernmental bodies and a wide range of NGOs identifies specific problems and suggests approaches for a variety of actors, including humanitarian organizations, to stopping the torture of children.
