Dear GHP Participants,

We are pleased to attach a copy of the Global Humanitarian Platform Action Plan 2007-2009, based on the commitments made at last year’s meeting and endorsed by the Steering Committee. As you will note, the Plan covers the next 18 months, until the third and final Platform meeting to be held in the summer of 2009. We hope that you will actively implement the various aspects of the Plan and use it as an impetus to (re-) circulate the PoPs within your organizations – and beyond. Ideally, the PoPs should be distributed with appropriate guidance and suggestions on implementation.

Another way to ensure better implementation of the PoPs will be to collect lessons learned and good practices of partnership. We hope that you will bring such lessons and good practices to the GHP meeting his summer. We are also aiming to hold at least one regional consultation (UN and non-UN) before the next Platform meeting.

We are beginning to plan for the second annual meeting of the GHP to be held this summer in Geneva. The dates for the meeting are tentatively1-2 July, which will be confirmed shortly. If you have suggestions for the agenda of the meeting, please let us know as soon as possible. We hope to be able to address some of the substantive issues identified in previous meetings.

With our best wishes for the new year and looking forward to a successful meeting in mid-2008 when we will be able to share progress in making the PoPs effective throughout our organisations for an improved humanitarian response.
