Sharing Views and Experiences of NGOs in Working with Humanitarian Reform: An NGO Survey
ICVA, as the largest global network of humanitarian NGOs tries to identify challenges that NGOs face in the field and bring them to international policy bodies in order to find solutions and, ultimately, improve humanitarian outcomes on the ground. As part of this effort, ICVA is currently undertaking the NGOs and Humanitarian Reform Project with a consortium of six other NGOs (ActionAid - as lead agency -, CARE International UK, CAFOD, International Rescue Committee UK, Oxfam GB, and Save the Children UK), looking particularly at NGO engagement in humanitarian reform mechanisms. The project aims to improve partnerships between humanitarian actors; to increase accountability towards beneficiaries and programme impact on those receiving humanitarian aid; and, at the global level, to influence international policies related to humanitarian action. The project's initial "Review of the engagement of NGOs with the humanitarian reform process" is available at: www.icva.ch/doc00003914.html.
PURPOSE OF THIS SURVEY
ICVA has developed a short survey, available at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/2YPDC8J, to capture the experiences of NGOs working in humanitarian response to track good practices and problematic areas in coordination, partnership, accountability, and funding. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete the questionnaire. We would also be grateful if you could share with us the names and contacts of any colleagues that you think might be interested in participating in the survey.
National and local NGOs are still absent in many humanitarian reform forums and even international NGOs often find it difficult to consistently engage in the clusters or other coordination mechanisms. This questionnaire's findings will contribute to improving the understanding of any challenges faced by NGOs, as well as identifying opportunities for improvements. It is sent out to several countries to complement the findings in the four focus countries of the project (Afghanistan, DR Congo, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe). Further project information is available at: www.ngosandhumanitarianreform.org. Please contact: secretariat@icva.ch if you have additional questions or suggestions.
YOUR INPUT
If you would like to complete the most up-to-date survey, we would be delighted. Please note, that we would like to track any relevant developments that your organisation experiences, and may contact you with questions in addition to re-sending the next version of the questionnaire once it has been adapted. We will feed back to you the outcomes of the survey, as well as other relevant documents. Answers to the survey will not be attributed.
